ISABELLA AND THE SPROUTS
Salt Spring Island
Raised on family jams and the forests of the southern gulf islands, BC based Songwriter Indigo Lainas (aka Isabella Sprout) sings emotive, tender and personal lyrics that offer the listener an opportunity to sit presently with an open heart. With a background in child care, Their live performances are sprinkled with sing-alongs, audience participation and the occasional story, backed by an ever-changing array of “Sprouts”. The sprouts consist of a web of close friends and talented musicians, adding their own touches and changing the sound accordingly.
With a bit of “everything” instrumentally (electric and acoustic guitar, wind instruments, strings, piano and vibraphone) the result is often a playful sound reminiscent of early Vashti Bunyan and the folk revival of the late 60s/early 70s, with some alt country influence. Driven by a philosophy similar to that of Don and Moki Cherry, the sprouts believe in the importance of creating community and a safe environment to play with the music.
With both their debut EP recorded at Risque Disque records released this last October and their live shows, it is often remarked you can “feel the love” in the songs of Isabella and The Sprouts.
